HOLLAND TWP. Mich. — Two teens suspected of being involved with a failed armed robbery attempt morning were arraigned in court Friday.

John Theodore DeVries, 17, was arraigned in Holland District Court on a charge of assault with intent to commit armed robbery, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies. The girl he had in the car with him – Madeline Jewel Lane, 17, from Zeeland Township, was charged with obstructing by lying to police in a major felony investigation.

Around 6:45 a.m., a suspect entered the Wesco at 14 W. Lakewood Boulevard and demanded cash from an employee, implying he had a weapon.  When a second employee approached him, he hit the employee in the face with his fist and ran. About two hours later, deputies say they found a 17-year-old matching the description of the suspect – DeVries – walking in the area of Beeline and James Street with Lane. They were both arrested after being interviewed.

Devries, from Holland Township, is being held on $50,000 bond. Lane’s bond was set at $5,000.
