April off to a wet start

Posted

WEST MICHIGAN — Most of the rain has ended as of this writing, with the exception of some showers still ongoing in portions of Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties. Rain totals today haven’t been record-setting, but they have been significant enough to help April get off to a wet start. Through the first six days of the month, Grand Rapids has received 0.94″ of rain, which is 0.32″ above the long-term average.

Of course, some of April’s rain total has been melted snow. Grand Rapids is off to a snowy start this April as well, with 3.2″ falling through April 6th (only a trace was recorded with this morning’s brief episode of snowfall). This six-day total is 2.5″ above the long-term average.

Both rain and snow are in the extended forecast, along with cooler than average temperatures as a whole. In fact, we’ll be watching for the possibility of more accumulating snow Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.
