Teen injured in rollover after falling asleep behind wheel

AUSTIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Stanwood teenager was injured when he fell asleep and his vehicle rolled over repeatedly Saturday night.

At 10:49 p.m. Saturday, Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a traffic accident with injuries at Pierce Road and 170th Avenue in Austin Township. Upon arriving at the scene, they found that 17-year-old Brendon Garner from Stanwood had been eastbound on Pierce headed home when he said he fell asleep while driving. The vehicle then left the roadway and rolled over several times.

Garner was transported by ambulance to Big Rapids Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mecosta/Austin Fire and Mecosta County EMS assisted the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department at the scene of the crash.
