SPRINGFIELD, Mich. — Calhoun County deputies say a man was rescued from a sewer after he fell in trying to retrieve his phone.

It happened near the intersection of Locust Road and Barberry Drive in Springfield. Authorities say that a little after 7 p.m. Friday night, a man dropped his phone into a sewer that he then tried to retrieve by removing the grate covering the hole. He himself then fell down the hole.

A Calhoun County sergeant says the man fell approximately 20 feet, and was later pulled out by the Springfield fire department.

It’s unknown at this time if the man suffered any injuries.
