KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Three juveniles led deputies on a short chase early Friday morning that ended with their vehicle crashing into an Arby's restaurant.
Two employees were closing up inside.
In a press release issued by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, the incident began about 12:45am when a deputy attempted to stop a black SUV for a moving violation on Sprinkle Road at Market Street. The driver didn't stop and sped off southbound but lost control and went off the roadway. The vehicle careened through the north parking lot of The Crew restaurant and into the Arby's at 3656 E. Cork. No one was hurt.
"The number of police vehicles that arrived surprised me," said Kate Berg who watched the scene from her hotel room nearby. "If I would say there was 15, there was 20 of them that was here last night and just arrived all at once."
The three juveniles then ran from the scene but were quickly caught by deputies and K9 unit, according to law enforcement.
"Everybody just jumped out and started running," said Berg. "But we did see somebody run behind the dumpster."
The juveniles were all apprehended and the driver was taken to the Kalamazoo Juvenile Home. The two passengers were taken to their parents.
The Arby's building was significantly damaged.
