KALAMAZOO/MATTAWAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo community has been coming together to remember the six victims of the mass shooting Saturday night and two more vigils are happening Tuesday night.
A local church is holding a vigil at 6:00pm at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant where four people were killed; Barbara Hawthorne, Mary Jo Nye, Mary Lou Nye and Dorothy Brown. Abigail Kopf was seriously wounded at that location.
Mattawan Schools are holding a candlelight vigil at 7:00pm on the soccer field to honor the Smith family. Tyler Smith was a senior at the high school. He and his father, Richard, were killed by the gunman Saturday night while looking at cars at Seelye KIA on Stadium Drive.
TheWestern Student Association is holding a candlelight vigil at the Western Michigan University flagpoles at 7:00pm in memory of those lost over the weekend.
Hundreds gathered Monday night at First Congregational Church in downtown Kalamazoo as well.
Six people were killed and two were wounded in the shootings Saturday night. The suspect, Jason Dalton, was arrested and charged with 16 crimes, including six murders.
