CASS COUNTY, Mich. — Deputies and emergency crews responded to two different calls of fishermen who fell through the ice on a lake Saturday afternoon.
Cass County deputies responded to the first call at 1:39 p.m. when a man fell through the ice on Bogart Lake in Jones.
Deputies say he was able to crawl out of the hole and make it to shore. He refused any help and was taken home by friends after emergency personnel arrived.
Deputies responded to a second call later that day at 2:25 p.m. to a different man that fell through the ice at another lake in Edwardsburg.
The man was pulled out of the water by another fisherman and refused any other help. It’s unknown if friends took him home or he drove himself.
Sheriff Joseph Underwood says you stay off the lakes until the ice refreezes and is able to hold your weight. The changing conditions are not suitable at this time for anyone to be on the ice.
