Berkshire Drive in Kalamazoo Sunday Evening

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is looking for two suspects after a violent home invasion that led to a shooting Sunday evening.

People at a home in the 900 block of Berkshire Drive say an individual they recognized showed up to their residence around 9 p.m., when another person behind them forced their way into the home with a small-caliber rifle demanding money.

A resident at the home refused to comply with the armed suspect’s demands, who then forced the resident into an upstairs room at gunpoint.

Police say a physical confrontation followed, leading to a shooting where a male victim was wounded.  That victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso and three gunshot wounds to the leg.  The victim was transported to the hospital, where the injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.

The two suspects involved ran from the scene following the shooting.  K-9 officers were brought to the area to attempt a track.  So far, no arrests have been made.

Due to the proximity of this emergency, Western Michigan University sent out alerts on Twitter warning students of a home invasion in the area:
