GRPD warns of ‘re-shipping’ scam

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Police are warning people of a new scam involving internet job offers.

Police say they’ve received several reports in recent weeks involving “re-shipping scams.” In the incidents, a victim applies to a “work from home” ad and then receives products at their home to re-ship to other addresses overseas. Sometimes the addresses are still in the U.S.

The products have been purchased using stolen credit card numbers.  The “re-shipper” is sending the product to the suspect and then become suspects in the illegal activity.  Often, the “re-shipper” is also not paid.

Anyone who suspects they were a victim of a scam like this, they should call their local police department.
