Over the years, many TV series have done live shows, where certain episodes are performed live on a network instead of taped for later play.
"The Simpsons" will join the roster of regular series going live.
How can a cartoon be "live?"
According to executive producer Al Jean in an interview with CNN Money, the actor who has voiced Homer Simpson from the beginning, Al Castellaneta, will be decked out in motion capture gear, and his animated character will move as he moves during the show.
The special episode will air on the Fox network on May 15.
