Billionaire’s ‘Titanic II’ launch date delayed to 2018

There are some who doubt the ship will ever sail, but Australian billionaire Clive Palmer claims his fully-functional replica of the ill-fated “Titanic” will be built, but its original sailing date in 2016 has been delayed to 2018, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The newspaper’s online report is being covered all over the Internet, with some skeptics refusing to believe the project will ever come to fruition. After all, who would want to take a cruise on a ship modeled after the most famous shipwreck in history?

The Belfast Telegraph notes there will be key differences in “Titanic II.” It will be built at a Chinese shipyard, not in Belfast, where the first Titanic was built. The new ship will be welded together per current standards, not riveted together as was done in the early 20th century.
