LANSING, Mich. (AP) – The State Board of Canvassers has approved a petition to recall Gov. Rick Snyder, but denied the majority of proposals related to Flint’s lead-tainted water crisis.
The board was split across party lines Monday on one proposal to recall Snyder for acknowledging he had “failed” the people of Flint in his State of the State Address. The measure has failed because a vote of 3-1 is needed to approve ballot language.
The board unanimously approved another petition stemming from Snyder’s authorization to move the office dealing with struggling schools – the State School Reform Office/Redesign Office – into the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
The board has rejected other petitions related to Flint because members said they didn’t “factually” and “clearly” state each reason for the recall.
