Frankly Speaking: Snow Over, Coldest Air Arrives

Posted

Good morning!  It’s been a very cold morning so far, and it will only get colder throughout the day.  The good news for travel is that the snow has tapered off and we’ll see sunshine throughout the remainder of today.

US-31 at Riley

There were several accidents along U.S. 31 near the lakeshore.  Some of the heavier snowfall totals ranged anywhere from 3-5″ with lesser totals drastically once you moved inland.

SNOW TOTALS

A few of the totals so far have ranged anywhere from 1/3″ at the airport in Grand Rapids all the way up to 3″ in Grand Junction.

Now that the snow is all but over, our focus shifts to colder air settling into our region.

The “feels like” temperature combines the winds and air temperature and as of 9:30 this morning, it felt like it was in the single digits in many areas!

RPM 1 (10)

This is a result of a “back door” cold front sweeping through our area.  The “feels like readings for this evening will remain in the single digit range as well!

Tomorrow morning as you’re heading to school and work, you’ll need to bundle up again as those numbers are barely above 0 in some cases!

3DayForecast_Full_Tomorrow (2)

After a morning low in the low 10s, sunshine will drive us into the upper 20s before a slow warm up the next couple of days.  There will absolutely be slick spots tomorrow morning as well from any melting and refreezing that occurred during the day on Monday.  Salt also loses it’s effectiveness at a certain temperature as well, as it continues to drop below that 15 degree mark.  Stay safe on the roads and have a great start to your week!
