GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kent County residents will soon have a safer way to dispose of needles that they may use for medical reasons.
The Kent County Health Department and the Kent County Department of Public Works has teamed up for the SafeSharps Program.
Beginning January 4, residents can request a free container from any Kent County Health Department facility. After filling out a brief form, the KCHD will issue them a sterile approved container that can be taken home. After the container is full, it can be returned for a new one.
“Sharps” is the term for medical devices that can puncture or cut skin. “Sharps” can injure waste handlers and also transmit diseases.
Containers can be picked up at these locations:
- Kent County Health Department – 700 Fuller NE, Grand Rapids
- Sheldon Clinic – 121 Franklin SE, Grand Rapids
- South Clinic – 4700 Kalamazoo SE, Kentwood
