DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say a 7-year-old girl has been killed and her 8-year-old sister seriously hurt after someone fired a gun into their Detroit home as they played with Christmas presents.
Police said someone fired about five shots into the home multiple times Sunday night on the city’s northwest side following a family argument. The 7-year-old died after being shot on the home’s main floor, and the older girl is being treated at a hospital.
Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt says the 8-year-old “is going to be OK.”
Dolunt says a woman described as “a person of interest” and a man who is “a possible suspect” are in custody.
Dolunt says there was a holiday party at the home, a fight broke out and someone left and returned with a gun.
