MSP: Slow down and drive safely this holiday season

Posted

WEST MICHIGAN — While many of you were home for the holidays, law enforcement officials were out on the roads keeping our streets safe. FOX 17's Lauren Edwards had a chance to ride-along with a Michigan State trooper in the Kalamazoo area. Officials told us one of the issues they face during the holidays are speeders.

"Had a few people going excessively fast," said Sgt. David Van Lopik, with Michigan State Police. "And on a holiday, that’s not good. We want people to slow down, [and] make sure that they get there safely.”

Crashes are exactly what troopers are trying to prevent.

“Pay attention to your driving."

Sgt. Van Lopik also advised to pay attention to your surroundings and the drivers in front of you. If you must use a cell phone or other electronics, a hands free device is highly encouraged.
