LANSING, Mich. – Soon-to-be-former Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell will have a new position in the new year.
Gov. Rick Snyder appointed Heartwell to the State Transportation Commission Wednesday. The commission is a six-member board for making policy for all state transportation programs. No more than three members can be from the same political party.
Lynn Afendoulis of Grand Rapids is also on the commission.
The term is for three years and must be consented by the Senate.
Heartwell’s term as Grand Rapids mayor ends at the end of 2015.
