MADISON, Wis. (AP) — One person was shot in the leg during a “disturbance” inside a mall in Madison, Wisc., according to authorities.
The victim’s injuries are not life threatening.
“This is not an active shooter,” Joel DeSpain, a Madison police spokesman, told The Associated Press. “This is not an act of terrorism.”
According to a statement posted on its website, Madison police say they are still looking for a suspect.
Witnesses told police several young men were involved in the disturbance in the middle of the mall. One pulled out a handgun and fired at least one round.
A 19-year-old man who was part of the initial dispute was shot.
“My understanding is it was a chaotic scene,” DeSpain said.
The shooting happened on one of the busiest shopping days before Christmas.
The mall remains closed.
