Goodwill store breaks ground in Portland after June tornado

PORTLAND, Mich. – An Ionia County business broke ground this morning on their new business, after their old building was destroyed by a tornado in June.

Goodwill broke ground on their new store Monday morning in Portland.  The store will now include a workforce development job training and placement center inside the store. This will be the first kind of setup for Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids.

The EF1 tornado caused significant damage to the city of Portland and Portland and Orange Townships on June 22.

Goodwill hopes the store will be ready to open in late April or early May of 2016.
