Three arrested after drugs and gun found in traffic stop

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Three people have been arrested after a traffic stop turned into a chase.

It happened on the 800 block of Woodbury Avenue around 2:45 Saturday morning. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers say they pulled over a 1999 Ford Taurus for a traffic violation. During the stop, two of the car’s passengers in the front and back seat bolted out of the car and fled.

Officials say that’s when one of the public safety officers chased down one of the passengers, who was heading down the 500 block of Florence Street. After being caught, an officer allegedly found that the suspect had cocaine on them. That suspect was arrested on charges of resisting and obstructing arrest and possession of cocaine.

The second 20-year-old passenger was tracked with a K-9 unit and was found hiding behind a house, also on the 500 block of Florence Street. That suspect was arrested for resisting and obstructing arrested, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of marijuana.

A search conducted on  the car led to the discovery of a .40 caliber handgun under the front passenger seat of the car.

The driver of that car remained in the vehicle the whole time and was arrested for driving on a suspended licenses as well as possession of marijuana.
