DETROIT, Mich. - The Lowell Red Arrows fell in a heart-breaking way in the Division 2 Michigan State High School championship football game.
Detroit King scored on 40-yard "Hail Mary" pass as time expired to down the Red Arrows 40-38. King had started their final drive from their own 5-yard line with 37 seconds remaining.
Lowell was leading 31-13 in the 2nd half, but King came back and closed the gap to four with about four minutes left.
Running back Max Dean scored three touchdowns and quarterback Ryan Stevens rushed for two more for Lowell. The Red Arrows (12-2) became the first team to score more than 28 points against King (14-0) this season.
