GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A local attorney is making a name for himself outside of the courtroom as a board game inventor.   His game Choice Words is now being nominated for Game of the Year.

Attorney Bob Kamp, Sr. says Choice Words is family friendly, inclusive and different every time you play.  Choice Words has been selling at local retailers like Schuler Books and bigger chains like Wal-Mart. It's also available in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the UK.

Kamp tells FOX 17 it's a progressive word and phrase game where each player gets one minute to write as many phrases they can think of that involve the root word written on a series of cards. Kamp said he got the idea for the game while waiting in the car one day with his wife.

"I was always interested in playing games as a kid and my wife and I used to do crossword puzzles," said Kamp. "I said one day, 'ya know it occurs to me contact lens and contact sport and a contact paper you line a drawer with, they’re fairly unrelated except that they have that root word in common. I wonder if there’s a game in that?'"

'Choice Words' has already won multiple awards in its year on the market. Kamp said it's a big honor for an attorney out of Grand Rapids with a love of language, saying the game will stand the test of time but only with your vote.

"As the language changes the game accommodates that," said Kamp.

Voting ends Jan. 17.  You can vote here
