GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police are looking into the death of a 17-year-old boy.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said at around noon Thursday a student with the Kent Career Technical Center reported he was having trouble breathing while on a school bus.

The boy was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where he later died.

Police are currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the teenager’s death.

The student’s identity is not being released, but he was a student in Wyoming Schools.  Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reeder issued this statement:

“It is very sad and our heart goes out to family for their terrible loss.  I cannot confirm any information as the parents have asked specifically we do release the name to the media.   Counseling was available at the school today and will also be available on Monday.   We are doing everything we can to help our students, but more important anything the family needs.  Our children, no matter their age are precious and the loss is great.  Every child leaves an impact on their family, friends, and their community and we will all feel this loss.
