KENTWOOD, Mich. – Kentwood Police have released the identities of those involved in an officer-involved shooting from Wednesday night.

The incident happened just after 11:00pm in the Sutton Club Apartments.  Police were called on reports of a suicidal person.  As police tried to make contact with the person, he came out into the hallway of the apartments, armed with a handgun.  Police say he pointed the gun at an officer and the officer fired his weapon at the man, killing him.

The man who died was identified Monday as Timothy Richard Arnold, 47.  He was a resident at the apartment complex.

The officer who fired at Arnold was identified as Jonathon Carter.  Carter is a six-year veteran of Kentwood PD.  He has been place on administrative leave and will be returning on an administrative assignment later this week as the Kent County Sheriff’s Department investigates the incident.
