MUSKEGON, Mich. – The woman who had thousands of rats and other animals in her Fruitport Township home has been sentenced to a day in jail, probation and community service.

Christine Lea Bishop was sentenced in Muskegon Monday.  She has been credited for having already served her one day in jail.  She is also required to perform 100 hours of community service and will be on probation for two years.  She was also fined and assessed court costs.

Bishop was running an animal shelter out of her rental home when conditions deteriorated where she could no longer care for them.  Domesticated rats that had been dropped off to her and put in her care bred quickly and quickly overran the home.
