Driver critically injured after smashing into Springfield house

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. — A driver is in critical condition after smashing into a home early Sunday morning, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened in the 400 block of Goguac St. around 2:00 a.m. The driver was headed north on LaVista Ave. and failed to stop and the three-way intersection at Gougac St, according to deputies.

When the vehicle drove past the intersection, it continued across the home’s front yard and through the front of the home, stopping inside the living room.

Nobody was home at the time of the accident.

Police only identified the driver as a 27-year-old man from Springfield who suffered critical injuries from being pinned in the car. He was the only person in the car and was taken to Bronson Kalamazoo Hospital for treatment.

Deputies believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
