LAWRENCE TWP, Mich. — Van Buren County Sheriffs are on the lookout for a possible group of thieves after an elaborate home invasion.

Sheriffs say that it happened early Friday morning at around 1:30 AM in the 54000 block of 60th Avenue. A caller reported that someone broke out a window in the back of their house and stole a cash drawer containing a large amount of cash. The homeowner – who is the owner of a local business – had left it in the back of his home.

The suspects allegedly used a pool ladder to reach a security camera on the house and cut the cables. Then, they used the ladder to reach a window at the back of the house. The window was broken, the house was entered, and the cash drawer stolen. The suspects exited the area and fled on foot.

A K-9 track was attempted, but was unsuccessful. Sheriffs believe that the suspect was picked up by a vehicle waiting in the area.

The homeowner’s son and wife were home at the time of the theft.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office at 269.657.3101 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
