ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Wednesday night a car burst through the front door of an Alpine Avenue convenience store -- literally.

The crash occurred at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Kwik Mart at 4258 Alpine Ave. NW in Alpine Township.

The store's owner said the car was being driven by a man wearing slip-on shoes whose foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the accelerator. The car then jumped over the curb and went into the building.  The driver did not have insurance and was ticketed by police.

The car was removed, the store never closed, and employees were retrieving items for customers. Gas also remained available.

The owner plans to make some updates to the store, which will remain open throughout the construction work.
