Video: Kalamazoo officers rescue deer from batting cage net

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Dashcam video has surfaced of two Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers rescuing a deer caught in batting cage netting.

The incident happened on September 27th at a local high school.  The whitetail deer had its eight point antlers caught in the netting and it couldn’t escape.

Officers Hutson and Gates met with a school staff member and decided on trying the rescue.  Officer Hutson secured the deer’s rear legs with a fire-rescue strap while Officer Gates cut the antlers free from the net.  The deer ran off, uninjured.

The department says that their single patch and badge represents their responsibilities as police officers, fire fighters and medical first reponders.
