PORTAGE, Mich. — Police in Portage are investigating a stabbing incident, in which a 28-year-old woman stabbed her father in the leg to protect her friend.
It happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Shell Station on S. Westnedge Avenue. Police say a 51-year-old man from Detroit was traveling with his daughter and her friend to visit relatives in Chicago. During the trip, the man started suffering from some type of mental disorder, causing them to exit I-94 and stop at the gas station.
At that time, there was an argument in the car, and the man grabbed his daughter’s 20-year-old friend by the neck and started choking her. The daughter then used a small knife to stab her father in the thigh, fearing for her friend’s safety.
The man was taken to the hospital for his injury, and is undergoing a mental health evaluation.
