DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver dog owner is hoping to solve a problem pet owners hope they never have to face: finding a lost dog.
According to KDVR, Pet Tag Plus is a new high-tech pet tag designed to help dog owners keep tabs on their pet. It is worn around the collar, and uses crowd-sourced GPS and iBeacon technology to figure out the tag’s location.
“When you scan it, it will instantly send you an email with a GPS location of the dog,” inventor Shahir Ahmed said.
It can also keep track of when the dog eats, plays and gets attention.
“It actually gives us the ability to connect with your pet in ways we’ve never done before,” Ahmed said.
The information syncs to a smartphone app so owners can see what their dog is up to even when someone else is taking care of him.
“It would give people peace of mind that we’re doing our jobs,” professional dog walker Ryan Zeman said. “There are skeptics out there that think their dogs aren’t getting the exercise that they need when they’re at work.”
The tags are not available for full use yet. The company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to try to raise money to get the invention off the ground. It is hoping to have everything up and running by the end of the year.
