ALLENDALE CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Greek Village is officially full with Grand Valley State University students, after its 10 newly built units were dedicated last week.
The village is just off-campus located at 5050 Pierce Road in Allendale Charter Township. It’s a partnership between GVSU and Orion Construction, providing 10 different national sorority and fraternity chapters with 265 beds for their student members.
Students moved into the first phase of construction, or the village’s initial six homes, last August. Then students moved into the last four homes during the last several weeks.
Orion Construction President John Wheeler told FOX 17 that this is a residential “hybrid that works.”
"It's a designated spot for a parent who wants their kids to maybe get back and be in the fraternity or sorority they were in, and then to follow through on an actual village effect, which keeps up safety, security, camaraderie all together,” said Wheeler. “That’s really what campus life here is all about.”
Wheeler said the company is discussing a third phase of construction with GVSU and has bought and zoned neighboring land, but they plan to hold off on building for another year or so to allow the students to get acclimated.
“I love them, I think they’re just a great value for these kids,” Wheeler said.
