Albion horse owner in shock after 2 horses were stolen

Posted

ALBION, Mich. -- Kimberlee Proteau thought her horses ran off but soon found out they had been stolen. Proteau has a message for whoever is responsible.

"We love them," she said. "We just casually ride through the fields and along the roads. They are basically big pets."

At first Proteau thought the horses were missing until her daughter found hoof marks and tire tracks up the the road.

"I just couldn’t believe that somebody would come and take them, especially those two, because they are family, and I am very attached to them," she said. "I've just been devastated and in shock."

The horses, Fancy and Silver, were taken Sept. 11. What scares Proteau most is that Fancy is in grave danger. She can only eat certain kinds of hay or else the hay gets stuck in her throat and she can't breathe."

"She’s also been colicky over the years," said Proteau, "which means certain hays and grasses upset her stomach, and if she rolls, she can get her intestines all twisted up, which kills the horse, also."

They're asking whoever took the horses to bring them home, no questions asked.

The family has reported this to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department, and it's being treated as a criminal case. Anybody with any information should call the sheriff's office at 269-781-0880.
