East Lansing Police Officer pinned by RV after torch run

EAST LANSING, Mich. — An East Lansing Police Officer is recovering with family after being hit by an RV Thursday night.

According to East Lansing Police, after the Special Olympics Torch Run had made its way through Lansing last night, officers were helping escort the runners and their caravan of vehicles.  An RV trying to leave a parking lot was blocked by a police cruiser and then the officer went to move the cruiser, the driver of the RV didn’t see him and moved slowly into the officer, pinning him between the RV and the cruiser.

Those on the scene were fearful of injuring the officer further by moving the vehicles so some police cadets were able to lift the patrol car and free the officer.  The officer was treated for injuries at a local hospital and released.
