HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 31 Tuesday afternoon.

The Ottawa County Sheriff reports that Douglas Kuker, 52, was riding eastbound on James Street when he crossed the southbound lanes against the traffic signal.  He made it through the median and continued on trying to cross the northbound lanes.  There, he was struck by a northbound vehicle being driven by a 48-year-old woman.  She had the green light and could not avoid hitting Kuker.

Kuker was unconscious and taken to Holland Hospital in critical condition.  The woman was also taken to the hospital with a minor injury.

The crash is still being investigated.
