LEELANAU, Mich. — Wine connoisseurs who live in Michigan know that the mitten has some extraordinary options when it comes to uncorking a bottle. And now, the state is getting a bit of national recognition for the wines that are being produced here.
This week, CNN posted a list of 10 up-and-coming wine regions around the world. Among them are Moldova, Sicily, and Michigan, which is one of only two regions in the United States to make the list.
The write-up for Michigan includes the following praises:
Akin to Sonoma Valley’s landscape 20 years ago, Michigan wine country is bucolic and largely undeveloped, comprising just 100 or so small- to medium-sized wineries and just less than 3,000 acres of wine-producing vineyards.
Yet the new wines coming out of this highly undervalued region — particularly those from the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas — are fantastic.
