Kalamazoo woman arrested in Maine for parental kidnapping

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - A Kalamazoo woman has been arrested in Maine for kidnapping a 7-year-old girl from Van Buren County.

Kylie Charles, 7, was located alive and well at a residence in Presque Isle, Maine Tuesday night.

The girl was reported missing on August 3rd to Michigan State Police in Paw Paw by the girl's father.  The father told police that he had sole custody of Kylie and the girl had visited the woman, who is a relative, on June 17th.  She was supposed to return on June 20th, but did not.

"Every attempt he made to call her, the calls went right to voicemail like the phone was off," said Detective Sgt. Shane Criger. The detective also said attempts  to reach her family and friends were unsuccessful. Also, the mother's Facebook page appeared to be inactive.

On Tuesday, police obtained a warrant for the suspect. The woman was seem at a store in Northern Maine,

Kylie is in Maine and is awaiting her father to pick her up.  The woman was arrested on Parental Kidnapping charges.
