FERGUSON, Missouri (CNN)– A day of peaceful vigils to mark the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s shooting death turned ugly Sunday night when two separate shooting incidents sent protesters running for cover and prompted police reinforcements.

At least one of the incidents was an officer-involved shooting that occurred when police came under heavy gunfire, according to police.

No officers were injured, but word circulated, along with a video, that another black man was shot, ratcheting up tension.

Elsewhere, several objects were thrown at police and some businesses were damaged, the St. Louis County Police Department said. At least two police cars were shot at.
