GRANDVILLE, Mich.,-- For the second time in four weeks, West Michigan played host to a potential occupant of the White House.

Earlier this month, presidential candidate Rand Paul brought his campaign to Holland.

Saturday, Ohio Governor, John Kasich spoke in both Grand Rapids and Grandville.

Familiar West Michigan faces attended Kasich's keynote speech at the Bear Creek Farm including former Congressman, Pete Hoekstra.

"He has the background, the experience, and energy to be the next president," Hoekstra said.

Governor Kasich was elected governor of Ohio in 2010, defeating the Democratic incumbent. He was re-elected in a landslide in 2014.

Now, the Republican is running for president, with three ticket items on his political agenda: The nation's budget, the need to rebuild our military, and the re-birth of the American Dream.

"American dream is not over the American dream is not reserved for people to talk the American dream is reserved for everyone," Kasich said.
Adding, "budgets aren`t about numbers, budgets are about ideas and concepts and when I say balance the budget, I mean every single program inside the federal program must be reviewed," he said.

In addition, Kasich wants to rebuild the Navy and give more technology to the Army.

Kasich says it can't be done without the help of both political parties.

"We need to bring people together and remind them that they`re neither republicans nor democrats they are Americans and their job is to stand up for America and solve problems," Kasich said.
