CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. -- A standoff in Cedar Springs has come to a peaceful end. A 23-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old woman during a domestic dispute. The man was armed and police made contact with the suspect just after midnight on Thursday. Police said the man and woman lived together.
Authorities were called to Cedar Springs Mobile Home Estates around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, said Kent County Undersheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young. Hostage negotiators were also on scene.
Young also said the woman was injured and took off, but the couple's one-year-old child was in the home at the time of the dispute.
At one point, there was a loud boom, but LaJoye-Young said the noise was a diversionary device.
Police believed the man was armed but determined he was unarmed when they extended a camera through a window.
Authorities were concerned there was no phone in the home and were going to try to get one inside to make contact with the suspect. Neighbors tell FOX 17 they tried reaching out to the suspect on Facebook, telling him to "give up."
Young said the suspect was placed in police custody and no force was used. The child was also safe.
