Despite never collecting a penny, state unemployment fining people thousands of dollars

Posted

WEST MICHIGAN -- The FOX 17 Problem Solvers are hearing from several people who never collected unemployment benefits while the state accused them of fraud and fined them. These individuals applied for benefits when they were laid off, but for many reasons they were denied benefits and never were paid unemployment benefits.

Some of them were immediately called back to work. Others found a new job, and some simply didn't appeal or fight for the benefits.

Yet, many are being accused of lying on their applications without being able to defend themselves.

The people the Problem Solvers spoke with say they've done nothing wrong and haven't had due process.
