KEELER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 63-year-old Van Buren County man is behind bars after calling 911 to say he had “just shot a guy”.
Police say a physical fight broke out between two men on Gilmore Avenue in Keeler Township Saturday night.
According to police, an altercation led to the man firing a gun at another man from Illinois who is now hospitalized in stable condition.
The Van Buren man told police he left the scene of the shooting because he had no cell phone reception, and drove to Lutz’s Drive near Dowagiac before calling for assistance.
The suspect was transported to a hospital due to his own injuries before being lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on felonious assault charges.
