Death of 19-month-old in Kalamazoo Township ruled homicide

Posted

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Township Police Department said Wednesday night that it is investigating the death of a 19-month-old boy as a homicide.

The child has been identified as Nyshuin Charles Lewis.

A call came in shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday reporting an unresponsive child at a home in the 200 block of West Dunkley in Kalamazoo Township. Medical personnel tried to revive the boy but were unsuccessful. Police said that during an autopsy Wednesday afternoon, the medical examiner determined the child suffered blunt force trauma, so the death was deemed a homicide.

Thursday, police told us that they had been called to the home in the past.  The last time they were called there was for domestic violence, but the chief says that he doesn’t believe any of the calls have to do with this case.  The child was found inside the home and the family was home at the time.

Police say there are no suspects at this time. The investigation continues.
