MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — Multiple black bear sightings have been reported in Michigan City this week, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR says on July 14 residents reported that a bear was going through their trash and bird feeders. The sightings were in the Motts Park area.
“Officers yelled at the bear and chased it into a wooded area,” a release from the DNR says.
Officials say people in the area should secure their trash inside.
A Michigan DNR officialtold FOX 17 in May that black bear sightings in the Hartford, Lawrence and Plainwell areas were the southernmost reported black bear sightings in the state in a decade.
