Kalamazoo park and beach closes for renovations

Posted

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A popular beach spot in Kalamazoo is now closed for the summer.

Woods Lake Beach Park closed Tuesday for major renovations.  The $800,000 project will include new restrooms, changing facilities, an observation deck, a fishing deck, a playground, rain garden and walking paths.  Over $350,000 is coming from a DNR grant with other funding coming from grants from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, the Dorothy U. Dalton Foundation, the Harold & Grace Upjohn Foundation and the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation.

The park was supposed to close last July, but the project was moved back.  Construction should go through November and then finish up in 2016.
