South Haven’s Harborfest rocked the boat

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — The Harborfest Committee celebrated their 24th annual festival this weekend. The festival kicked off Thursday, June 18th and continued to today with a pancake breakfast and beer garden.

Nearly 40,000 people attended during the course of the 3-day festival. Families were able to celebrate Father’s Day with food, crafts, carnival rides, a zip line, and several music performances.

Festival organizer Dan Ohlmann said that it takes a full year to plan an event like this. Further, he said he’s glad that the last day of the festival fell on such a special day for west Michigan dads.

“We wouldn’t be able to put it on without our sponsors, it gets our community together,” he said. “It always helps our sponsors and it gives the community something to do.”

Harborfest is a free event, sponsored by local merchants and businesses. Their sponsorship covers roughly 75 percent of the festival’s operating budget.
