Man shot by Kalamazoo officer’s wife enters plea in home invasion case

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A man has pleaded no contest to second-degree home invasion after breaking into a Kalamazoo public safety officer’s home.

According to the Kalamazoo County Assistant Prosecutor Carrie Klein, 26-year-old Christopher Palmer faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading Friday in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court.   He is scheduled to be sentenced July 13.

During the Feb. 14 incident in the 800 block of West VW Avenue in Schoolcraft Township, Palmer was shot by the officer’s wife after he smashed out a basement window and entered the home, Klein said.

Palmer initially faced a charge of first-degree home invasion, but that charge was dropped as part of the plea deal, according to the prosecutor’s office.
