EAST LANSING, Mich -- With just 2 seniors on the team and 1 in the lineup on Friday, Kalamazoo Christian beat Hillman, 13-2, in five innings in a division 4 softball state semifinal at Michigan State University's Secchia Stadium.
The Comets got on the board in the bottom of the 1st on a 2-run double from starting pitcher and sophomore Aliyah Lemmer. They added three more in the 2nd on a 2-run single from junior shortstop Kara Gjeltema and an error.
K-Christian really blew the game open in the 4th scoring 7 runs. Lemmer allowed just the 2 runs in the top of the 5th, she struck out 2 in 5 innings.
Kalamazoo Christian (29-14) will now play in the division 4 state championship game for the 3rd straight season after falling to Rogers City in the 2014 title game and winning it all in 2013.
The Comets will play Unionville-Sebewaing Saturday at 3 p.m..
