Text-to-911 now available in Calhoun County

Posted

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority (CCCDA) has implemented Text-to-911 service.

The authority has been testing the Text-to-911 service since March but the final of four providers came online Wednesday, so the service is now complete.  Anyone can text a message to 911 in the county to reach emergency dispatch.

Dispatch says that calling 911 is still the most effective way to reach emergency services, but in situations like domestic violence cases, it can be safer to text than call.

Ionia County came online last week and was the first county in West Michigan to offer the service.
