Portage Northern tops Grosse Pointe South, will play for a state championship

EAST LANSING, Mich -- Portage Northern took advantage of 5 Grosse Pointe South errors to score 6 runs in the first 2 innings on its way to an 8-0 division 1 baseball state semifinal win Friday at Michigan State's McLane Stadium.

Brady Young had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Max Schuemann and Tommy Henry each scored 3 times for the Huskies.

Blake Therrian started on the mound for Northern and pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits, 0 runs, he walked 2 and struck out 6.  Freshman Michael Lincoln came in to record the final 2 outs.

Portage Northern (30-7) will play Hartland (27-16) in the division 1 state championship game at 9 a.m. Saturday moring at McClane Stadium.
